Resume: My name is Tom Zinniel. I have been working as an Industrial Electrician most of my career. I have worked on everything from packaging machinery and robots, to chemical process instrumentation and VFD repair over the course of my professional experience.
I received an Associate Degree in Electromechanical Technology in 1985.
As far as the guitar goes, I began taking lessons when I was a kid at Stan’s Music in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin back in 1974. In 1978 I bought my first electric guitar – a Hohner Les Paul copy. I’ve been tinkering with guitars and amplifiers ever since!
In 2008, I began collecting guitars. Most of the guitars I first acquired back then needed a repair of some sort along the way or were purchased as bargains “in need of repair”. In 2009, after realizing I could take my hobby and make some extra income by repairing and then reselling these “bargains”, I decided to take the Fretting Technician Certification Course at Brian Galloup’s School of Lutherie in Big Rapids, Michigan. I wanted to make sure I was completing the repairs correctly before reselling anything.
In December 2009, I received my Fretting Technician certification from Galloup’s School of Lutherie.
I do love to play the guitar also. After my certification, I can now appreciate what a good set-up can do for a guitar; not only for better playability, but, for the sound quality of the instrument as well. There’s nothing like the reward of a great sounding and great playing instrument after a repair or accurate set-up.
